From 2002 to 2003, the team was known as the Cape Fear Fire Antz and competed in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL). In 2003, the team moved to the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and then changed its named to the Fayetteville FireAntz in 2004. By 2017, the team finally took on the name and form that it has today when it came under the ownership and control of Union Pro Hockey Group and US Army veteran Chuck Norris, and changed its name to the Fayetteville Marksmen. Despite this somewhat tumultuous and variegated history, it is one of the highest-ranked teams in the SPHL and is deeply committed to entertaining its fans and making them proud.
