'About El Tri'

'

Initially under the moniker Three Souls in My Mind, the band would later shorten their name to the more manageable El Tri. They played their debut gig in 1968, and would perform largely in English to try to cultivate an authentic rock vibe. Over time (and having written over 15 albums in a 17 year period) the band would start to sing in Spanish, taking a huge gamble by crossing over into the legitimate Spanish rock genre. The bands big leap would come at the nationally famous Festival de Avandaro, where the band started off singing in English before switching to Spanish mid show. The gamble would pay off, as they would both retain their fan-base while also reaching out to a wider, younger Spanish speaking audience.

The band formed originally with four members, but would expand and shrink over the years as the sound and spirit of El Tri evolved. Among the founding members is Alejandro Lora, playing bass guitar and on lead vocals, who is largely the most well known member of El Tri as well as its frontman. Alejandro's accomplishments far exceed just the music he has written and the accolades he has achieved as a musician. He has become noted as a monumental figure in modern Mexican culture, having received awards for outstanding citizenship, a day celebrated in his honor, and a statue made in his image in Guadalajara.

By the 1990s, El Tri was making waves not just in Mexico but also across the border - to the south, north, and beyond. The band would receive extensive radio play in Peru; participate in the flagship Ibero-American Rock Encounter Festival in Madrid, Spain; Tour Latin America via Chile, Venezuela, and Argentina; and travel north to play the biggest musical hubs in the US including New York City, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Their worldwide exposure would also lead to their nomination for a Best Album award in the Latin Grammy Awards.

'Previous Hits'

'

El Tri's biggest breakout hit was their 1985 album Simplemente, which would be their first album under the alias El Tri and also their first album certified gold. Simplemente would be carried by three huge breakout singles, the first being Triste Cancion which would become a fundamental track in Latin rock. The more soulful melodies of Metro Balderas and Vicioso would also be huge favorites, with the latter becoming a huge hit across Peru.

The band would follow up with a constant stream of new and innovative albums, putting out over 20 original albums over the next three decades. By the early 1990s the band had cemented its position as the pioneers of Mexican rock, consistently releasing gold certified hit after gold certified hit. The band would notch dozens of hits, including the pop sounding Ya No le Metas, the much applauded and heartfelt Tu Sonrisa, and the mainstream hit El Rey. No list of El Tri tracks would be complete without mentioning Ahi Pa' la Otra and their personal salute Las Piedras Rodantes.

'

'Trivia'

'

Lonely Planet, the popular world travel book series, would characterize El Tri as 'the grandfathers of Mexican rock', and others have drawn comparisons as El Tri being Mexico's Rolling Stones.

The band does not keep their political views a secret, with many songs and lyrics focusing on the Partido Revolucionario Institucional, the conservative party of Mexico.

'The El Tri Concert Experience'

'Fog rolls over the stage and the lights dim as El Tri appears in front of the audience. The band paradoxically blends their 40 years of musical experience with the vigor of a teenage rock group performing their breakout show. Whether the band is singing one their flagship Triste Cancion or a cover of a old-school American rock classic, the whole crowd sings, jumps, and dances along. Whether you're a die-hard fan since 1968 or newly initiated into El Tri fandom, this is going to be one of the biggest and most explosive rock shows of your life. Don't miss the biggest musical opportunity of the year - buy your ticket today, on StubHub!'
