Home to two national parks, a University district with plenty of small theaters, and an eclectic mix of festivals around the year, Alberta's capital city offers plenty of diversity in terms of arts and entertainment. With interesting museums to check out, a theater district to explore, and a vibrant nightlife to experience, there's always something fun to do in Canada's Festival City.
Edmonton's Whyte Avenue is a thriving hotbed of revered theaters and subcultures. It is home to such revered institutions as the Varscona Theatre and the Shadow Theatre. The district also hosts the annual Edmonton International Fringe Festival, the oldest fringe festival in North America. Music is equally vibrant in the city, thanks to venues such as the Francis Winspear Centre for Music and the multipurpose Rogers Place, which hosts concert acts regularly. The newest addition to Edmonton's entertainment scene, Rogers Place has presented such global artists as Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars in the past.
Sports fans can catch Edmonton's professional ice hockey team, the Oilers, in action at Rogers Place, too, or cheer for the Edmonton Eskimos, the city's Canadian Football League franchise.
Edmonton has venues of every size and flavor, from the concert-sized Commonwealth Stadium, for sports events, to the quaint Starlite Room, for theater productions, and everything in between.
