Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum
first opened its doors in 1967. The 8,000-seat arena is the home to both the Pirates men's and women's basketball teams. The arena is named in honor of longtime Pirates supporters Walter and Marie Williams. Recent renovations to Williams Arena resulted in new scoreboards and video boards.
''Blue Edwards was selected with the 21st overall pick by the Utah Jazz in 1989. Edwards played both shooting guard and small forward for a decade in the NBA and played on teams that made the playoffs four times. Oliver Mack was taken with the third pick in the second round of the 1979 draft and went on to average seven points a game over three NBA seasons. Charles Alford and George Maynor are other former East Carolina Pirates who were drafted by teams in the NBA.'
'Head Coach Joe Dooley returned to Greenville, N.C., in 2018 after serving as the head coach of the Pirates from 1995-1999. Between the two stints with the Pirates, Dooley had an impressive run as the coach of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Dooley led the Eagles to 20 win seasons and a conference title each of the five years he was the coach of the team. Dooley is part of a small group of Division one coaches who achieved a 66% or higher winning percentage for the five years in question. Dooley and the East Carolina Pirates are looking forward to similar success.'
