Eason Chan was born in July 1974 in Hong Kong. He studied architecture at Kingston University where he eventually would earn an Honorary Doctor of Arts degree due to his musical achievements. Throughout his school years, Chan participated in vocal lessons at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he received Grade 8 vocal certifications. This is the highest-ranking grade given to non-professional musical performers of any kind. In 1995, Chan returned to Hong Kong to perform in a new-talent singing competition where he won first place.
