The Dean E. Smith Center is the home of the
University of North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team. It opened in 1986 and was named after Coach Dean Smith who coached the Tar Heels from 1961 to 1997. At almost 22,000 seats, it is one of the largest college basketball arenas in the country. Where the best seats at the Dean Smith Center?
Dean Smith Center seating varies depending on the event. For basketball games, Sections 107Ð110 and 124Ð127 will put you courtside with a close-up view of the action. For an expansive view of the court, sections 206Ð211 and 223Ð228 will let you take everything in at a reduced price.
Is there on-site parking at the Dean Smith Center?
For non-basketball Dean Smith Center events, there is a limited amount of on-site parking at the Bowles lot next to the venue. For basketball games, local lots are reserved, but there is shuttle service from several satellite lots in the area. Shuttles begin running 90 minutes before the start of the game and for about 45 minutes after the finish. Patrons should call the box office at 919-969-4900 to find out which lots will be in use.
Is there wheelchair-friendly seating at the venue?
The Dean Smith Center has several wheelchair accessible seats in sections 101 and 133. There is limited disabled parking on campus which is available on a first-come-first-served basis. All restrooms and concession stands at the venue are wheelchair accessible.
Are there food and drinks available at the Dean Smith Center Dome?
There are concession stands throughout the venue. Most are open an hour before the game begins. Patrons can purchase snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and a variety of hot foods. Alcohol is neither served nor allowed anywhere in the venue.
Are there any nearby options for food and drinks after the event?
Food and drink options on campus are limited. However, a short walk from the main campus will bring you to downtown Chapel Hill. There are many options to grab a bite on Franklin Street. Walking down this road you will find several restaurants, wine bars and coffee shops.
