Dead Sara frontwoman Emily Armstrong always had an interest in music, and began writing her own music from a very young age. By the time she was 15, her voice had reached a clarity that many seasoned musicians take years to hone. She had the ability to glide up and down the musical scale and sing-scream without the use of Auto-Tune or vocal filters. She teamed up with Siouxsie Medley in 2002, after meeting through a mutual friend, and the two began writing songs together. They recorded their first song Changes in 2004 and performed as a band for the first time in 2005. They settled on the name Dead Sara as a tribute to their music idol Stevie Nicks whose song Sara includes the lyrics Dead Sara. They went on their first tour in 2007 with the help of financial backer Tal Kapelner and opened for Endless Hallway. Soon after they released their first EP, The Airport Sessions. This gained the attention of local radio stations who began playing their music. The band also gained drummer Sean Friday and bassist Chris Null during this time, cementing their signature sound. Since then, the band has released their first full-length album and gained the admiration of critics, fans and other musicians.
