Dan Brown was inspired to become a thriller fiction writer after reading Sidney Sheldon's The Doomsday Conspiracy. He starting writing Digital Fortress, and also co-wrote a humor book with his wife, called 187 Men to Avoid: A Survival Guide for the Romantically Frustrated Woman. It has now become one of the most popular books of all time, with millions and millions of copies sold worldwide. Because of the success of The Da Vinci Code, his previous books enjoyed a boost in sales as well. In fact, four of novels made it to the New York Times Best Seller list in 2004, and in 2005, he was featured in Time magazine's list of the top 100 most influential people of the year.

Several years later, Brown released his third Robert Langdon story called The Lost Symbol, which was released in September of 2009. The novel sold over one million hardcover and e-book copies on the first day of its release. The fourth novel featuring Robert Langdon is called Inferno, and it was released in May of 2013, which also went on to become a best seller.
