Cotton Bowl Tickets

On January 1, 1937, TCU and Marquette battled in the inaugural Cotton Bowl at the stadium that carried its name in Dallas, Texas. Until 2009, teams in the SWC, Big 12 and SEC fought for the bowl title each year at the stadium known as the Cotton Bowl. The game then moved to its current location in Arlington. In 2018, Clemson trounced Notre Dame 30–3. We won’t know until the close of regular season play which two teams will clash for the title on December 28, 2019. You’ll watch one of the six bowls comprising the College Football Playoff, an accolade it earned in 2014 season. In 2015 and 2018, the bowl functioned as a national semifinal. What are some of the most famous plays and players?

In its first few decades, gameplay went wild. In 1954, Alabama's Tommy Lewis jumped off of the bench to storm the field to tackle Rice's Dickey Moegle as Moegle ran from his team's 5-yard line to quickly cover an open field. Referee Cliff Shaw signaled touchdown anyway since the Lewis tackle of Moegle at the 42-yard line wasn’t legal. Things have tamed a bit since then, but the Cotton Bowl often contains some of the biggest plays of college ball, like the record 87-yard touchdown catch of Syracuse’s Ernie Davis, who led his team to defeat Texas 23-14 in 1960. Look for epic battles like the 1976 Arkansas vs. Georgia matchup, which began with a Bulldogs lead of 10–0. The crowd despaired for a shutout, but Arkansas battled back, scoring an amazing 31 unanswered points to win the Cotton Bowl. This bowl also offers you a shining opportunity to see a Heisman winner play. In the 1980s alone, three Heisman Trophy winners played in the Cotton Bowl: Boston College’s Doug Flutie in 1985, Auburn’s Bo Jackson in 1986 and Notre Dame’s Tim Brown in 1988.
