''The Corpus Christi Hooks are the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. The Hooks have been a member of the Texas League since 2005 when the franchise relocated from Round Rock, Texas. Nolan Ryan, who pitched for the Astros over the course of his illustrious career is listed as one of the owners of the Hooks. It didn't take long for the newly formed squad to find success, as they won the 2006 Texas League Championship in only their second season of existence in 20. It took five seasons for the Hooks to make their way back to postseason, but when they did the franchise established itself as a staple in the Texas League Playoffs. Between 2012 and 2018, the Corpus Christi Hooks appeared in five postseasons. While they continue to chase their second Texas League title, the Hooks have put themselves in playoff contention on a consistent basis. Get your tickets to see the Corpus Christi Hooks at StubHub.'
'2020 will be Gregorio Petit's first season as the manager for the Corpus Christi Hooks. He will be the eighth manager in the 16-year history of the Hooks. This is Petit's first job as a coach at any level. Petit retired as a player after the 2018 season following a 15-year career. While most of Coach Petit's career was spent in the minor leagues, he did play 197 career major league games, posting a career batting average of .249. Petit first spent time with the Houston Astros in 2014 when he split time between their MLB roster and Triple-A affiliate. He was a Triple-A All-Star that season. Petit replaces Omar Lopez, with whom the Hooks had a 66-73 record in 2019.'

The Hooks have a deep-seated rivalry with their main intrastate rival, the
Frisco RoughRiders.
This rivalry has multiple layers, as the Hooks' parent organization is a rival of the RoughRiders' parent organization, the
Texas Rangers
. In 2016, a game was delayed for 11 minutes due to a bench-clearing brawl between the two teams. The Hooks also consider the
San Antonio Missions
a rival. These two teams battle every year to determine who is the best team in South Texas.

The 7,050-seat
Whataburger Field
opened for the arrival of the Corpus Christi Hooks just before the 2005 season. The scenery of the Corpus Christi Bay just beyond the outfield wall provides a backdrop for the grassy berms that allow for additional general admission seating. There are a lot of additional amenities for fans to enjoy, including a play area for the kids, a splash park and a pool and spa area that can be reserved if you want to enjoy a game from poolside. History buffs may also enjoy the remnants of cotton processing buildings in the outfield that serve as a nod to Corpus Christi's cotton industry.
''Some of the most recognizable names in Major League Baseball have passed through Corpus Christi on their way to big league stardom. Two-time AL MVP Jose Altuve may be the most recognizable name among Hooks alumni. 2016 World Series MVP Ben Zobrist also played minor league ball in Corpus Christi. Current Astros outfielder George Springer is the only player in Hooks history to win Texas League Player of the Year, an honor he received in 2013.'
