The Columbus Clippers have an illustrious history. Since their founding in 1977, they have been the champions of the
International League
and the winners of the Governor’s Cup eleven times. They also won the pennant in each of their winning years except for 1987. The Clippers have the most championship wins of all International League teams. In 2001, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Minor League Baseball, sports historians Bill Weiss and Marshall Wright compiled a list of the Top 100 MiLB Teams of All-Time and ranked the Clippers at number 72 for their 1992 season roster. That year, the Clippers had a win/loss record of .660 with 95 wins and 49 losses, 127 home runs and 188 stolen bases. They finished the regular season 22 games ahead of the second-place team in the West Division, the Richmond Braves. In 2016, Forbes ranked the Columbus Clippers as number five on a list of the 30 most valuable MiLB teams. For your chance to see one of these winning athletic performances live, you can get your tickets to all Columbus Clippers home and away games at StubHub, the world’s leading online ticket marketplace.
Fans looking to catch future MLB stars while they play with the minors should keep an eye on Brandon Barnes, who is the Clipper with the most RBIs, along with Oscar Mercado and Eric Stamets, each of whom has 14 stolen bases under their belt. The players who lead the Clippers in batting include Daniel Johnson with the highest batting average at .306. Eric Haase leads with the most runs at 67, while fan-favorite Bobby Bradley leads with the most home runs at 33. The Clippers’ talented pitchers include Josh D. Smith, Shao-Ching Chiang and Michael Peoples, each of whom is expected to have long playing careers.
The Clipper alumni with some of the most recognizable names include such baseball legends as Derek Jeter, Deion Sanders, Darryl Strawberry and Don Mattingly.
The International League Governor’s Cup has a three-division playoff. The fourth spot is taken by the Wild Card Club, the non-division winner that has the highest win/loss percentage. The winners of the West and South Division play each other, and the winner of the North Division plays the Wild Card Club in a best out of five playoff series. The winners of these two series will then, in turn, play each other in the best out of five Governor’s Cup Finals to determine the ultimate league champion. You can get tickets to all MiLB and Clippers games at StubHub.
In 2019, the Clippers held their Sugardale Dime-a-Dog Nights every Monday night as well as some other selected Tuesday nights during home games at Huntington Stadium. First responders and members of the military are usually honored with discounted reserved seats at Tuesday games. On Wednesdays, hungry fans were treated to Dollar Days food specials, and on Thirsty Thursdays the stadium offered Dollar Days drink specials. Similar special promotions are held on Fridays and Sundays, while Saturdays usually includes a special fireworks display which fans can enjoy from the stands.
While there are no parking places for tailgating around
Huntington Park
or in the Arena District, the Clippers do offer catered pre-game parties in either the left-field picnic area or on the Pepsi Party Deck during home games. You also can try out the All-You-Can-Eat Seats, the covered party area of the Right Field Plaza, the covered Pedialyte Porch, the Hall of Fame Bar Terrace Tables or host your catered party in one of the Clippers' Tansky Sawmill Toyota Suites. Children's birthday parties get special attention with a card autographed by the players and a PA shout out. If someone in your group has a peanut allergy, the Clippers have peanut-free suites at all home games while seats are available.
