From the culturally rich Mile-High City of Denver to the lively college town Boulder, and from family-friendly Colorado Springs to the tiny mountain resorts of Vail, Aspen and historic Telluride, Colorado's towns and cities are just as enticing as its famous Rocky Mountain scenery. The state's culture is diverse as well, in some places exuding a hippie vibe, in others a sophisticated scene and elsewhere embracing its Old West heritage. The resulting live entertainment scene in Colorado gives visitors and locals a great array of options all year around.
Colorado's contemporary music scene covers all genres, but the state has a particularly vibrant folk and bluegrass scene. The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Colorado Music Festival concert series in Boulder and the Music in the Rockies festival are some of the state's premier annual music events.
The classics are also well-represented in Colorado. The state's impressive lineup of performing arts companies includes the Colorado Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Colorado, Ballet, Opera Colorado, OpenStage Theatre and Company and many more. Theater buffs have plenty of venues to discover, among them Denver's Ogden, Bluebird and Paramount theaters, Fort Collins' Lincoln Center and the historic Aurora Fox Theatre and Arts Center.
Denver's major league sports roster includes the NFL's Denver Broncos, the MLB's Colorado Rockies and the NBA's Denver Nuggets.
Colorado venues
Colorado's premier venue is the Denver Performing Arts Complex. One of the largest in the country, it covers four city blocks and comprises 10 venues including the Stage Theatre and the Boettcher Concert Hall. Fans of popular music should check out the schedule for the storied and spectacular Red Rocks Amphitheatre just outside Denver.
