The 2016 season was a historic one for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers men’s baseball team, setting future performance expectations high for fans and athletes alike. With a 4-3 win over the Arizona Wildcats in Omaha, Coastal Carolina won the
College World Series
and captured the 2016 National Championship. Coastal Carolina became the first squad since the 1956 Minnesota Golden Gophers win the national championship in its first try in the College World Series. Three players on that team earned Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball All-American honors, the first time three Chanticleers were so named in the same season. The 2016 edition of the Chanticleers ranked first nationally in runs (516) and home runs (96). Aside from 2016, Coastal Carolina baseball has made 16 appearances in the NCAA regionals since 1996, three berths in the Super Regionals and over the years the team has taken home 13 conference tournament crowns in the Big South and Sun Belt conferences. The Chanticleers' 842 wins since 2001 is sixth in the NCAA. His coaching accolades include the 2016 National Coach of the Year, nine Big South Coach of the Year honors and recognition as the 2018 Sun Belt Coach of the Year.'
'The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers went 36-26-1 overall and 15-13 in the Sun Belt in 2019. A number of those victories came against major conference opponents, such as Wake Forest University, Michigan State, Illinois and Indiana. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers even played then-top ranked Oregon State to a 4-4 tie in the Seattle Baseball Showcase as the game reached the time limit in the 11th inning. As in 2018, the Chanticleers captured the Sun Belt championship once again in 2019. The Chanticleers’ season ended in the NCAA Regionals in Atlanta with a 10-8 loss to host Georgia Tech.'
'The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers duel with schools such as Georgia State, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern for honors in Sun Belt baseball. Other conference opponents include Troy, Louisiana, Texas State, South Alabama and Arkansas State. With its 2016 National Championship and other strong showings, Coastal Carolina seeks to assert bragging rights with fellow Palmetto state programs Clemson and the University of South Carolina. Both the Clemson Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks have made their own College World Series appearances, with South Carolina earning back-to-back national championships in 2010 and again in 2011. The Chanticleers will also face North Carolina, North Carolina State, UNC-Wilmington and College of Charleston this season.'
