The songwriting team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein usually composed musicals for Broadway. Cinderella was their one exception; this musical was developed for television, and the first version, which starred Julie Andrews, premiered on CBS in 1957. It was a huge hit for CBS, and the success of the first televised Cinderella led to two more TV productions. First, the 1965 version featuring Lesley Ann Warren as the title character, and second, the 1997 production, which starred Brandy Norwood, Whitney Houston, Bernadette Peters and Whoopi Goldberg.
