The Cincinnati Reds play at the Great American Ball Park, which opened in 2003 in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, and has a seating capacity of 42,271. This hitter-friendly park was built on the banks of the Ohio River. Field sightlines are fantastic and many seats have beautiful views out over the river. The center field is built to resemble a steamboat, reflecting a time when steamboats were common on the Ohio River. The steamboat design is particularly beautiful when viewed from the river at night with all the lights on. There are 2 smokestacks that react to different moments in the game. Flames flare out of the stacks when the Reds strike out a batter and launch fireworks to celebrate Cincinnati home runs and wins. There’s a lot to see in this beautiful park and it’s known for delivering a great fan experience. Visit the interactive Reds Hall of Fame and Museum for an interesting look at Cincy history. And if you’re bringing the kids make time for the TriHealth Family Zone where you’ll find fantastic entertainment, activities, and toddler friendly areas.

Cincinnati was the first city to host a professional baseball team, but they’re not technically the oldest team in MLB. It’s an interesting story that also highlights some history around the quintessential pairing of beer and baseball! The first pro team was the flamboyant Cincinnati Red Stockings of 1869, who went on what is arguably the greatest baseball road trip ever and helped popularize the game with flashy antics and even flashier red stockings. The 20 game, 32-day long road trip brought people out in droves. The team’s exploits were reported nationally and helped promote baseball across the country. The club dissolved after the 1870 season for financial reasons. Baseball was revived in Cincy when the Cincinnati Stars semi-pro team was selected to join the new National League. The Stars were expelled from the league in 1880 and dissolved, because they refused to stop serving beer at games, or stop playing games on Sundays. The current incarnation of the Cincinnati Reds team was organized in 1881 and played for the American Association initially before leaving in 1889 to join the National League. Today, many ball parks are sponsored by beer companies...
