Charleston events

Charleston, West Virginia's capital and largest city, has a history dating back to the late 18th century. In contemporary times, it continues to be the epicenter of West Virginia's unique culture, regularly hosting events intended to preserve and showcase local arts, music and more. Visitors and locals also have ample live entertainment options, most of which take place downtown.

Charleston tickets

One of the most notable live entertainment offerings in Charleston is the Mountain Stage live music program presented by NPR since 1983. The program is regularly recorded for the radio and podcasts in front of live audiences at the Culture Center Theater on the grounds of the West Virginia State Capitol. Also on the capitol grounds is the Vandalia Gathering, a celebration of the state's mountain culture held every Memorial Day weekend. Another celebration of West Virginia's arts and cultural scene is FestivALL, held annually on West Virginia Day, June 20.

The West Virginia International Film Festival comes to town twice a year, first in spring and then in winter. In April, Charleston hosts the West Virginia Dance Festival, a contest with its final performances held at the West Virginia State Theatre. In June, the city offers Symphony Sunday, with music, food and entertainment by local bands and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, along with a fireworks finale.

Charleston venues

Charleston's biggest venues are used by its two minor league baseball teams - the West Virginia Power and West Virginia Wild. Appalachian Power Park, home of the West Virginia Power, also hosts the baseball programs of the University of Charleston and Marshall University. The University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field is a downtown venue used for football, soccer and other sporting events.
