Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall - Complex
Carnegie Hall is a concert venue in Midtown Manhattan. It gets its name from Andrew Carnegie, who provided the funds for its construction. He built it to serve as a venue where the New York Symphony Society and
Oratorio Society of New York
could be housed. The music hall opened in 1891, with the Carnegie family as the original owner. Many changes occurred during the years, and the building was even in danger of being demolished in 1960. That was when violinist Isaac Stern and many other artists urged the city to take over ownership. In 1962, Carnegie Hall earned a designation as a National Historic Landmark. The main auditorium is named after Isaac Stern. It has hosted performances by the
New York Philharmonic
, other classical groups and popular music performers. Find Carnegie Hall - Stern Auditorium tickets at StubHub.
