The Brooklyn Nets franchise was founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans, before moving to Long Island in 1968. They played in the American Basketball Association and won 2 ABA championships before a merger with the NBA in 1976. In 1977 the team returned to their New Jersey roots, playing as the New Jersey Nets, before moving to Brooklyn in 2012. Since joining the NBA the Brooklyn Nets franchise has won 4 Division titles, 2 Eastern Conference titles, and appeared in 2 Finals games but have yet to bring home an NBA Championship. The Brooklyn Nets have a well-known, crosstown rivalry with the New York Knicks.
