'About The Bright Light Social Hour'

'

The Bright Light Social Hour would burst into existence in 2004, a musical side project of then students of Southwestern University Ryan O'Donoghue, Jack O'Brien, Thomas Choate and Curtis Roush. The band would quickly begin to build up a reputation on the local music scene, touring with various hardcore and post hardcore acts and building up a rabid local following. Despite mounting success and growing popularity, the band would take a near year long hiatus as various members left to further their formal educations, which included Curtis Roush setting off to study audio engineering.

The band's hiatus would end with the addition of percussionist Joseph Mirasole in late 2006, as the band migrated to Austin for their first ever studio session to record the EP Touches. The band would be shaken up by the departure of bassist Ryan O'Donoghue, but would prosper in the face of adversity as they quickly became mainstays on the competitive and dynamic Austin music scene. By 2008 the band would be back in full swing as they recorded their follow up EP Love Like Montopolis, soon adding local musician A.J. Vincent to their lineup as they rapidly approached the critical mass necessary for mainstream success.

The Bright Light Social Hour music phenomenon would soon escape the confines of Austin, becoming regional musical heavyweights whose hard work would come to fruition at the 2011 Austin Music Awards. The annual awards ceremony, held during the legendary South By Southwest musical festival, would bestow a record breaking six awards to Bright Light Social Hour, spurring the band onto a groundbreaking North American tour that would send them to the biggest festivals and events music has to offer, including the Ottawa Bluesfest, Austin City Limits Music Festival, Chicago's Lollapalooza, and the Hangout Music Festival, among many others.

'Previous Hits'

'

Bright Light Social Hour has penned and recorded dozens of hits over the years, from the raw and hard hitting tracks from their 2010 self named debut to the most recent, cleaner, and more polished jams of 2015's Space Is Still The Place. The band has also put out three EPs that markedly demonstrate that band's progressions over the years, including 2007's Touches, 2008's Love Like Montopolis, and the 2011 live EP New Year's Live.

The band's most recent hit is the recently released single Infinite Cities, which dropped in advance of the release of their much anticipated 2015 record Space Is Still There. Among the band's other hits include their debut full length hits Men of the Sea and Garden of the Gods; energetic and frenetic hit Shanty; live performance gem Detroit; one of their earliest breakouts Back and Forth; and their politically inspired hit Wendy Davis.

'

'Trivia'

'

One of the band's earliest big deal tours would be after their South By Southwest breakthrough, when the band would tour alongside legends of classic rock Aerosmith.

The band's litany of awards and accolades from the SXSW music festival includes winning Band of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, with the band winning the Song of the Year award for hit track Detroit.

The band would be present for the much covered political filibuster by Wendy Davis in the Texas state legislature. The filibuster, which blocked a bill that would limit abortion rights for women in Texas, would inspire the band to go home and write the hit single Wendy Davis, complete with a music video from video footage of the event.
