Players need accuracy rather than power to succeed at hole #1, a par 4. The green slopes to the front-left; there is a deep bunker to the left and a large, but shallow bunker on the right side. At the end of the course, the 18th hole has a tight tee shot down a hill. It will test the true leaders. There is a tree fronting the left side of the green. A back pin position makes this hole more difficult.
Vijay Singh was the winner and Jeff Maggert took second place. Brandt Jobe placed third in the 2018 Constellation Senior Players Championship.
The Constellation Senior Players Championship tournament was founded in 1983, joining the pre-existing Senior PGA Championship and U.S. Senior Open, a senior majors during that time.
The Senior Players Championship have several golfers who have won more than once: Arnold Palmer (1984, 1985), Raymond Floyd (1996, 2000), Dave Stockton (1992, 1994), and Bernhard Langer (2014-15-16). The Players Championship on the PGA Tour and the Senior Players Championship on the Champions Tour have been won by three players: Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples and Raymond Floyd. Jack Nicklaus almost added a second win. Nicklaus lost the 1995 tournament in a playoff to J.C. Snead.
Miller Barber won the first tournament in 1983. Arnold Palmer was the winner in the years 1984 and 1985. 1986 saw Chi-Chi Rodriguez as the winner. Gary Player won in 1987. Although the tournament has had different sponsor names, it was the same senior tournament. The first of the Constellation Energy series was won in 2007 by Loren Roberts.
After first place winner Retief Goosen, from South Africa, with a score of 274, the second place winner was Jay Haas of the U.S. Tim Petrovic placed third and Kent Jones followed in fourth place. Scott Parel of the U.S. was fifth on the leaderboard.
