One of the biggest tournaments of the year will be played from April 10th to April 13th when the best golfers in the world descend on the legendary course at Augusta for The Masters. In June the top golfers on the planet will head to Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, NC for the U.S. Open. Generally considered to be one of the most difficult events on the PGA Tour, the U.S. Open is always played at a prestigious and challenging golf course somewhere in the United States of America. Fans will flock to Pinehurst in 2014 to see the world's best tee it up and smack it down the fairway.

If it's top-notch golf that you crave, then a great event to attend will be the PGA Championship in August of 2014. This event will take place at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY and will feature some of the most incredible golfers you've ever seen play the game. This might be the least-renowned of the majors, but that doesn't mean it's not a fantastic tournament to be there for. You can see it all unfold for yourself when you're there in Louisville in person to witness the event.

History

Golf dates back to the 15th century when it was created in the country of Scotland. Oddly enough, the first written record of the sport is a ban placed on it in 1457. The oldest golf course in the country is St. Andrews, located on the east coast of Fife, a place considered sacred by many golf fans. The Professional Golfers Association was founded in 1916 and now features all the best golfers in the world. The organization puts on tournaments across the world States throughout a lengthy season in which pro golfers win championships and compile points that are taken into account when ranking each golfer. The biggest events of the year are the four major championships, The Open Championship (referred to often as The British Open), The U.S. Open, The Masters and the PGA Championship.
