The Boston Terriers are developing a reputation for being one of the most dangerous basketball teams in the Patriot League. Since the team’s establishment decades ago in the 1970s, the Terriers have represented Boston University in the Patriot League, which is comprised of 10 D-I programs from the Northeast. They have made seven appearances in the NCAA tournament, six appearances in the National Invitation Tournament and appeared in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament twice. ''The Boston Terriers’ head coach is Joe Jones. The year 2019 will be his ninth season coaching. Previously, he held the same position at Boston College and Columbia. Prior to those gigs, he was an assistant coach at Hofstra and Villanova. Jones’ all-time record at Boston University is 137-120 (.533) for eight seasons, while his all-time conference record is 87-53 (.621).'
'Since the team’s inception, the Boston Terriers have been the team of choice to join for many notable college basketball standouts. Notable players from the Boston Terriers this season are Walter Whyte, Max Mahoney and Javante McCoy. Throughout the history of the team, Larry Jones, Steven Key, Tunji Awojobi, John Holland and Darryl Partin have all received the accolade of America East Men’s Basketball Player of the Year in 1988, 1990, 1997, 2011 and 2012, respectively. Mike Alexander, Tunji Awojobi, Raja Bell, Paul Seymour, Tyler Morris, John Holland and Jake O'Brien were named the America East Men’s Basketball Rookie Player of the Year in 1983, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2007, 2008 and 2009.'
