Bears in Trees are an indie rock “dirtbag boyband” from South London made up of ukulelist Callum Litchfield (he/him), bassist Iain Gillespie (they/them), guitarist Nicholas Peters (he/him), and drummer and producer George Berry (he/him), with Iain and Callum sharing vocals. Pulling influences from indie bands such as The Front Bottoms and Modern Baseball, they produce pop-infused rock that sets feel-good melodies against introspective lyrics.
Formed in 2014 while they were still in school, the band began gaining a following while still operating out of their drummer’s bedroom. Their first material surfaced in late 2015 under the collection Let’s Sleep On It. Their debut album Just Five More Minutes was released in August 2017 and a subsequent collection of interludes was released that December.
In 2019, their EP I See Blue was released. The work follows the band’s feelings and experiences of University while focusing on a theme of a lot of their music, “getting better”.
Their 2020 EPs I Want To Feel Chaotic and Keep Me Safe marked the band’s first releases under the label Counter Intuitive Records.
The 2021 single Flower Through Concrete was the band’s first release with a producer from outside of the band, Alexander Archer. This was followed by the release of their debut studio album and everybody else smiled back.
The band’s fourth EP was November 2022’s Every Moonbeam Every Feverdream which they have described as being “about those days where you wish you didn’t have a body”.
In 2023, Bears in Trees began the year with a pop-punk infused collaboration with NOAHFINNCE, titled “No Point Pretending (Song For Tour).” As the name suggests, it was written ahead of Noah’s 2023 US tour and marked the band’s first major collaboration with another artist.
The band’s sophomore album was released independently, the group’s first major independent release since before I Want To Feel Chaotic.
