Bandimere Speedway
'
Known to the National Hot Rod Association as Thunder Mountain, the Bandimere Speedway is a quarter-mile dragstrip that hosts
Mopar Mile-High Nationals
. Opened in 1958 by the Bandimere Family, the Bandimere Speedway is a tribute to the long-time racing dreams and auto business of John Banidmere Sr. Renovations began in 1988 when $4 million was dropped on new buildings, better pit areas, improved visibility and an expanded spectator area. Located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the Bandimere Speedway is 5,000 feet above sea level. The altitude brings new challenges to the speed of cars on the strip because of less downforce. Catch the next race by purchasing Bandimere Speedway tickets at StubHub.
''The Bandimere Speedway's seating capacity is 23,500. It was increased from a mere 8,000 in 1998.'
'Guests attending Bandimere Speedway events will find quite a few spectator parking lots. These lots are free for local drag races. For major events, such as Night of Fire & Thunder or the Jet Car Nationals and Family Festival, parking in Bandimere Speedway lots is $15 per car. Only cash is accepted.'
'Tailgating with outside food and drinks is allowed in your designated parking spot. Six-pack coolers are allowed into the venue, but they are subject to search and approval by security personnel. Attendees may purchase concessions, such as hot dogs, nachos and ice cream, from the two stands located near the Bandimere Speedway's main entrances.'
'Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at Bandimere Speedway.'
'
If Bandimere Speedway puts you in the mood to race, Action Karting is located on South Rooney Road. Guests can suit up in full racer gear to speed around designated go-kart tracks at 50 miles per hour. Less than two miles from Bandimere Speedway is the
John Denver
statue. The statue is a bronze Rocky Mountain tribute to the country singer.
''Handicap attendees are well accommodated, but they must give advanced notice at the Bandimere Speedway Tickets Office. Shuttles to handicap parking spaces are available at all events.'
'There are three bus stops near Bandimere Speedway. Two are located on Bear Creek Boulevard, and another is located on West Alameda Parkway.'
