Originally built in 1908 as part of the Peter Jay Sharp Building in Brooklyn, New York, the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Gilman Opera House is one of the most treasured performing arts venues in all the world. The single oldest opera house in the United States, it was originally named simply the BAM Opera House, and it kept that name for 91 years. However, in 1999, after a generous $5 million donation to the Brooklyn Academy of Music by paper magnate and philanthropist Howard Gilman, the opera house was posthumously renamed in his honor. 'Besides Gilman Opera House, the Brooklyn Academy of Music also includes the Lepercq Space, the Harvey Theater and the Fishman Space. All three of these are theaters located in the same building as Gilman Opera House.'

'The Brooklyn Academy of Music and Gilman Opera House do not have their own special parking lots for guests, but there is street parking available at a number of nearby garages.
