Ballet San Antonio background

Originally known as the Texas Ballet Concerto, this regional dance company was founded in 1985 by Melissa Hale Coyle and Mayra Worthen. Gabriel Zertuche and Willy Shives have both served as company directors. Committed to enhancing dance opportunities throughout the region, the company formally changed its name to Ballet San Antonio in 1991.

Notable productions

Ballet San Antonio excels in its productions of classic ballet favorites that inspire the entire family. Beauty and the Beast, The Nutcracker, Peter Pan and Carmen are among their most beloved classical performances. The company frequently performs new ballets written and choreographed specifically for their ensemble. Solace and A Tropical Fiesta, both developed by Willy Shives, are among the works they have premiered.

Ballet San Antonio special performances

In addition to their work on the stage, Ballet San Antonio brings dance to a wider audience by offering a Ballet in the Park series. They also offer sensory-friendly performances of each of their seasonal productions to enable those with hearing or vision disabilities to enjoy their ballets. To encourage the artistic involvement of young people, exclusive performances for youth-only audiences are incorporated into each season.
