2019 Record: 38-28
''The Auburn Tigers first fielded a varsity baseball team in 1949. In those days, baseball season wasn't as long as it is today and the Tigers put up a 9-10 record in their 19 game season. Now some 71 years later, the Tigers of Auburn University are one of the top programs in the SEC and in the nation. Having posted a winning record in seven of the last eight seasons, the Auburn Tigers are poised to make another deep run in the SEC again this season under the leadership of Coach Butch Thompson who replaced former coach Sonny Golloway. Thompson, a widely respected pitching coach has already moved to bring in Auburn alumni and former MLB All-Star, Tim Hudson as an assistant coach as the Tigers seek to get back to the College World Series for the second consecutive season. On October 22, 2015, Butch Thompson returned to Auburn to become the head baseball coach for the Tigers. Previously, from 2006-2008, Thompson was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Auburn before becoming an assistant coach and pitching coach at
Mississippi State.
Coach Thompson is known for his development of pitchers. In fact, he has seen 14 of his former pitchers make their Major League Baseball debuts. Even more impressively, Thompson has turned 31 pitchers, who went undrafted out of high school, into MLB draft picks. Aside from his ability to develop pitchers, Thompson is known as one of the best recruiters in the nation. Since 2003, Thompson has secured 12 top-10 recruiting classes including two top-5 classes during his stent at Auburn. Butch Thompson broke the Tigers' 22 year College World Series drought when he piloted the program back to Omaha in 2019.
''Samford Stadium-Hitchcock Field at Plainsman Park has been the home of the Auburn Tigers since 1950. Located on the campus of Auburn University, upgrades performed in 1998 brought in elements of historic MLB stadiums to make the stadium experience even more special. The park offers green seat backs which are a tribute to Camden Yards, a green monster like Fenway Park and a brick backstop which is a nod to Wrigley Field. Baseball America named Samford Stadium the best in college baseball in 2003 and D1baseball.com named it one of the top stadiums in the nation in 2016. With a seating capacity of 4,096, the seats down the first and third baselines are only 4 feet from the ground and 40 feet from the bags while the seats behind home plate are only 60 feet from the action.'

Auburn's primary rival in every sport is the
Alabama Crimson Tide.
While the football rivalry between these two schools often steals the headlines, the baseball teams have competed against each other over 300 times now. Most college rivalries are rooted in either conference play or geographical proximity and this rivalry checks both boxes. Not only are both schools located in Alabama and part of the SEC, they also battle for supremacy in the SEC West. Regardless of the sport, Alabama and Auburn is one of the best rivalries in college sports.
''
Auburn has put some of the top names in the history of MLB into the Big Leagues. Legendary multi-sport athlete Bo Jackson made a name for himself playing both baseball and football at Auburn before going pro in both. Mark Bellhorn, Tim Hudson and Hall of Fame first baseman Frank Thomas are also Auburn Tigers alumni. As far as current players go, the most recognizable name is probably Minnesota Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson, who has appeared in multiple
MLB All Star games.
