'Ana Popovic Background'

Ana Popovic was born in Belgrade, Serbia, where her father encouraged her love of the blues at an early age. Popovic listened to her father's extensive collection of blues records all throughout her childhood, and her addiction to this soulful type of music set in quickly. Popovic started to learn how to play the guitar when she was 15, and she spent years honing her guitar skills and her vocals before forming her own band at age 19.

In 1995, she gathered a group of talented musicians to form the band Hush, whose rhythm and blues sound was infectiously fun, especially thanks to its infusion of funk and soul. Hush played at venues all over Serbia, Yugoslavia, Hungary, and Greece, and the band established a devoted fan base due to their heavy touring schedule. In 1998, Hush performed over 100 concerts around Eastern Europe, and they achieved moderate commercial success with their debut album, Hometown.

Despite the band's growing momentum, they disbanded later that year when Popovic left to study jazz guitar in the Netherlands. It was in the Netherlands that she formed Ana Popovic Band, and shortly afterward appeared on a Jimi Hendrix tribute album because of her phenomenal jazz guitar skills. In 2001, Ana Popovic decided to pursue her solo career, and found instant success, so much, in fact, that she decided to abandon her studies in the Netherlands to pursue her music career full time.

Her catchy blues tunes have a biting edge to them, making them some of the most infectious and captivating songs in the history of blues music.
