Hosted by the popular Hartford, Conn., radio station 96.5 TIC, the All Star Christmas concert has become one of the region's most highly anticipated holiday events, annually attracting such high-caliber artists such as Phillip Phillips, Kelly Clarkson, Guster, Train and OneRepublic.
Hartford-area radio station 96.5 TIC has hosted All Star Christmas concert for close to a decade now. Between 2009 and 2015, the holiday extravaganza featured such bands as Train, Uncle Kracker, Five for Fighting, Goo Goo Dolls, Sara Bareilles, Guster, Christina Perri, The Fray, Gavin DeGraw, Kelly Clarkson, Phillip Phillips, Andy Grammer, Avril Lavigne, the Backstreet Boys, Ingrid Michaelson, Echosmith, Daughtry, Matt Nathanson, Rob Thomas, The Band Perry, Rachel Platten and Nick Fradiani.
The 2016 All Star Christmas concert promised to be an epic one, with All About That Bass singer Meghan Trainor scheduled to headline. Although fans were initially disappointed by her Instagram announcement that an illness had forced her to go on vocal rest and cancel all remaining concerts for 2016, spirits picked up when it was announced that American Idol winner Nick Fradiani would replace her. The pop artist, who has local roots, gave an energetic, engaging performance that more than made up for the disappointment of Trainor's illness.
OneRepublic also made an appearance, with frontman Ryan Tedder nimbly jumping atop pianos and mingling with the audience. The show also featured performances by British indie rocker James Bay and by Lindsey Stirling, a capering violinist famous for her theatrical YouTube videos.
