'About Alestorm'

Alestorm is a heavy metal band that hails from Perth, Scotland. They describe themselves as “bacon-powered pirate core.” They classify as power or folk metal, but Alestorm dabbles in thrash and dark metal, too. The band’s songs adopt a sea-shanty feel, featuring instruments like the accordion to highlight their pirate likeness. Alestorm performances level on the absurd and have plenty of alcohol-, pillaging- and otherwise pirate-themed references.

Band members include Christopher Bowes on lead vocals, keyboards and Kedar; Gareth Murdock on bass guitar and backing vocals; Peter Alcorn on drums; Elliot Vernon with keyboards and backing vocals and Máté Bodor on guitar.

Alestorm began as Battleheart in 2004, changing their name in 2007. Signed by Napalm, they released their debut album, Captain Morgan’s Revenge, in 2008. The song list on this album includes “The Huntmaster,” “Nancy the Tavern Wench” and “Terror on the High Seas,” as well as the album’s namesake.

In 2009, Alestorm released Black Sails at Midnight, which includes notable songs “Leviathan,” “Pirate Song” and “Wolves of the Sea.” The band recorded a music video for “Keelhauled” and toured Europe to promote the album, appearing at Paganfest. They fueled their American following with an appearance at Heathenfest in the United States. They also toured the United Kingdom in 2010 and appeared in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2011, Alestorm released the album Back Through Time, featuring pirate-themed ditties like “Shipwrecked,” “Swashbuckled,” “Rum” and “Death Throes of the Terrorsquid.” Their 2014 album, Sunset on the Golden Age, included classic pirate core anthems like “Walk the Plank,” “Wooden Leg!” and “Hangover.” In 2016, Alestrom formed an unlikely pirate partnership with Icelandic band, Skalmold. Their split album, Skalstorm (a combination of Skalmold and Alestorm) features the songs “Drink,” an Alestorm song performed by Skalmold, and “Kvadning,” a Skalmold jam performed by Alestorm.
