As the capital of the Empire State, Albany has long been a center of culture and entertainment in its own right. Located just 150 miles north of New York City, the city was founded along the west bank of the Hudson River and is steeped in American revolutionary history. It is one of the oldest original European settlements and one of the first British colonies in America. Today, Albany is the seat of state government and home to major corporations, as well as a focal point of Tech Valley. With its proximity to NYC, Saratoga Springs, Woodstock and Boston, Albany is a modern and vibrant city that has a little something for everyone.
Professional hockey and collegiate sports fans can enjoy an AHL-affiliated Albany Devils game or some Division I college football from the UAlbany Great Danes. The summer season is packed with music festivals and outdoor events such as Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival and Jazz at the Lake: Lake George Jazz Weekend in neighboring George Lake.
Music fans can enjoy concerts at some of the city's many eclectic venues, including The Palace Theatre and The Empire Center at The Egg, which host both international and local acts throughout the year. Ballet and musical fans can take in a performance at the Capital Repertory Theatre. For more casual entertainment, visitors can enjoy bowling, drinks and music at the Lucky Strike Social Club.
