Situated on the campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage, the Alaska Airlines Center was constructed to host a variety of sports, shows and other community events. Since then, it has served the Anchorage community with top-notch sports and entertainment programming.

What began as a brief sketch on a paper napkin has turned into so much more. Initially conceived as a venue to host the University of Alaska Anchorage's sport teams, the center has evolved into a multi-use sports and community center that plays host to a rich variety of programming. Previously, the Wells Fargo Sports Complex had served as the home base for University of Alaska Anchorage athletics programs.
The Alaska Airlines Center broke ground in 2012 and celebrated its grand opening in September 2014 with Howlapalooza, a music and arts festival featuring numerous local bands on two stages, food carts, and a variety of arts and crafts vendors.

'As a multi-purpose facility, there's no limit to the kinds of events the Alaska Airlines Center is equipped to host. While its primary stated purpose is to provide space for University of Alaska Anchorage sports teams to play, the Alaska Airlines Center also serves as an ideal space for major concerts and other programming. Past performers at the center include Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Motley Crue and The Offspring. The Alaska Airlines Center has also hosted the Harlem Globetrotters on multiple occasions in addition to its own regular athletic programming, which includes basketball, gymnastics, wrestling, volleyball and more. The center also serves as a venue for special community events such as job fairs and holiday spectaculars.'
'
The Alaska Airlines Center contains 5,000 seats for its patrons, including a balcony tier. The versatile stadium offers a variety of configurations for patron seating, depending on the event's seating requirements.
''As the largest city in the state of Alaska, Anchorage has an unsurprising wealth of activities beyond the doors of the Alaska Airlines Center. Explore the region's rich cultural heritage at the Alaska Native Heritage Center or experience the gorgeous countryside from aboard the scenic Alaska Railroad. Spot wildlife on a bike ride along the beautiful Tony Knowles Coastal Trail or hike the Flattop Mountain Trail for a better view of the surrounding area. If you're looking for more live entertainment, check out the scheduled programming at the Atwood Concert Hall.'
'Before the University of Alaska Anchorage came to a sponsorship deal with Alaska Airlines on March 21, 2013, several other names for the facility were considered, including the Seawolf Arena, the Seawolf Sports Arena and the UAA Community Arena.'
