A Tribe Called Red is an Ottawa-based Canadian electronic music group that blends elements of hip-hop, reggae and dubstep for a distinct sound. A Tribe Called Red draws on sounds of First Nations music, including vocal chanting and drumming, for a performance that is part experimental and part aboriginal.

A Tribe Called Red consists of three DJs; Ian “DJ NDN” Campeau, Tim “2oolman” Hill and Bear Witness produce their distinct “powwow-step” music for the dance and club scene. The group has been a vocal supporter of Idle No More, an ongoing grassroots protest movement among the Aboriginal peoples in Canada.

In 2012, A Tribe Called Red put out their self-titled debut album. The following year, they released Nation II Nation. A Tribe Called Red has also released a series of EPs. Their discography includes Moombah Hip Moombah Hop, Trapline, Suplex and Stadium Pow Wow.

A Tribe Called Red has toured extensively across Canada and has been featured on shows like Canada Live. The group has received multiple Juno Award nominations as well as nominations for the Polaris Music Prize.

In 2014, A Tribe Called Red withdrew from a performance at the opening ceremonies of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights due to their concerns about the museum’s depiction of aboriginal human rights issues.

The group’s 2015 release Suplex is pro-wrestling themed.
