A Tribe Called Red is an Ottawa-based Canadian electronic music group that blends elements of hip-hop, reggae and dubstep for a distinct sound. A Tribe Called Red draws on sounds of First Nations music, including vocal chanting and drumming, for a performance that is part experimental and part aboriginal.
Shows for A Tribe Called Red are energetic and dancing is encouraged. The group asks audiences to refrain from cultural appropriation and to leave headdresses or other aboriginal dress and decoration at home.
A Tribe Called Red has performed at major festivals, including Coachella, Bonnaroo, AfroPunk and New Orleans Jazz Fest, among others. On both albums and in live performances, A Tribe Called Red promotes inclusivity, empathy and acceptance amongst all races and genders.
