Washington State’s football history dates back to its foundation in 1894 when the football team was still an independent program. In 1916, Washington State played in the second ever
Rose Bowl
game, beating the Brown Bruins by a score of 14-0. A year later, the school joined the Pacific Coast Conference, a progenitor to the Pacific Athletic Association, which it would later join in 1962. With the arrival of Mike Price in 1989, Washington State rose to national prominence. His teams won the conference title in 1997 and 2002, earning a Rose Bowl berth both years. In 2018, head coach Mike Leach finished with one of the most impressive seasons in school history. His team won 11 games, a Cougar record, made the Pac-12 championship game and finished No. 10 in both the AP and Coaches rankings. If you want to experience a Cougar game live, then you can purchase tickets at StubHub through either the website or the convenient mobile app.

Washington State Cougars football games are played at
Martin Stadium
, located on the school’s campus in Pullman. Originally built in 1972, the stadium is named after Clarence D. Martin, who served two terms as Washington’s governor between 1933 and 1941. Martin Stadium has an official seating capacity of 32,952. Both standard and premium seating options are available. Premium seating includes club seats, loge seats and luxury suites.
''Washington State has plenty of activities to experience to supplement your football viewing experience. Three hours before kickoff, you can visit Hollingbery Fieldhouse to the immediate north of the stadium for a food fair, which will offer a wide variety of different foods and beverages. Admittance to the fair is free. If you are attending an away game, then you can visit the school’s official tailgating party, The PreGame, which includes live music, giveaways, food and much more. During the game, you will be treated to performances by the school marching band and the cheerleading squad.'
'Tailgating is allowed in all designated spaces around the stadium. If you do not want to bring your own equipment, then you can still visit the food fair at Hollingbery Fieldhouse to join in on the tailgating experience. Fans are expected to abide by the school’s tailgating policies. For many fans, a Washington State football tailgate is an essential part of the game.'

Washington State shares its most important rivalry with a fellow state team, the
University of Washington Huskies
. The two teams first met in 1900 and have played every year since 1945. The winner of the game receives the Apple Cup presented by the governor of the state. Between 1934 and 1961, the winner received the Governor’s Trophy. Washington State also shares a rivalry with the
University of Idaho Vandals
due to the proximity of their campuses. The two schools are located a mere eight miles away from each other. Known as the Battle of the Palouse for the geographical region in which it’s played, the teams' first matchup was held in 1894. The rivalry was at its most intense through the 1970s, but since then, the teams have only played in spurts.
