Based in Davis, California, the Aggies football team is a member of the Division I Football Championship Subdivision. The Aggies started out as an independent team back in 1915. In 1925, the team joined the Northern California Athletic Conference, a Division II conference that eventually disbanded in 1992. At that time, college football was restructuring, and the Aggies joined the American West Conference for just one year. After playing as an independent team once again, UC Davis joined the Great West Football Conference in 2004 and then the Big Sky Conference in 2012. This transition marked a jump to Division I competition, putting UC Davis in competition with the University of Montana, Sacramento State and the University of Northern Colorado, among others.
Sacramento State
has become a rival, especially given that the teams are located in the same metropolitan area. They battle each year for the Causeway Carriage title with UC Davis well ahead in the overall series.
Cal Poly
, located just a few hours away, is another rival, and the two schools play for the Golden Horseshoe. If you'd like to get UC Davis Aggies football tickets, reserve your seats at StubHub.
''The stadium was built in 2007 as a replacement for Toomey Field. The Tavernetti Bell, which is commonly referred to as the Victory Bell and was one of the landmarks at Toomey Field, was moved to the new stadium when it opened. This allowed the continuation of a university tradition: ringing the bill once for every point scored after each victory. As a multi-purpose facility, the stadium is also home to the women's lacrosse team. Almost 11,000 spectators can be accommodated in the venue. Athletes compete on a Sportexe Synthetic Field.'
'Parking can be found in various lots around campus. Lot 56 and Lot 53 are closest to the stadium and require a parking permit. Public parking is available in Lots 30, 41 and 47 in addition to the Pavilion Parking Structure at Dairy Road and Hutchison Drive. In general, parking lots open three hours before the game is scheduled to begin. Alternatively, if you wish to take public transportation to the stadium, the Unitrans runs several bus routes on game days. There is also ample bicycle parking near the stadium's east entrance.'
'Premium tailgating is available in a special section called the Champions Corridor. This includes extra-large parking spaces and a location close to the stadium. Standard tailgating is available in Lots 56 and 53 on a first-come, first-served basis. Gas and electric grills are permitted, but charcoal grills are not. The grassy areas around the stadium are open to tailgating as well.'
'Holders of UC Davis Aggies football tickets can bring a bag into the stadium as long as it can fit under a seat. Purses, fanny packs and backpacks are all permitted. Hard-sided cases and coolers are not, nor are outside food and drink with the exception of unopened plastic water bottles.'
'On UC Davis Aggies football game days, gates open approximately one hour before kickoff. All gates are handicap-accessible.'
'When you attend a UC Davis football game, expect to see traditional concessions like hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and pretzels. There are two permanent stands on each side of the stadium, and there are portable concession stands in various locations. Cash and credit cards are both accepted.'
