The Kooks formed in 2004 in the city of Brighton in the UK. The band takes a lot of its musical influences from the industry time period known today as the British Invasion. Some of the bands that influenced music during this time included
The Rolling Stones
, The Beatles and The Dave Clark Five. Many critics have compared The Kooks to fellow band the
Arctic Monkeys
. The Kooks broke into mainstream British music only a few months after the band formed thanks to its successful debut album.
''Three founding members of The Kooks met at school in Croydon. These three met Max Rafferty after moving schools to join BIMM in the pursuit of music. Thanks to a mutual love of classic British and American musical icons, the group got along easily and tossed around early ideas for a band. The group takes its name from a popular David Bowie song. The Kooks sent an extended play demo tape out in an attempt to find gigs to play. After just four months together, Virgin Records signed The Kooks to an album deal. The band claims that its early success is simply due to the members' landlord at the time liking the look of the hats the group members purchased as parts of their stage outfits. Despite not being able to make that performance in the end, The Kooks finished the demo tape and developed its style as the band booked more concerts.'

'Thanks to the outstanding success of its first album and subsequent works, the band is able to play to packed crowds in cities large and small. The Kooks is famous internationally, and fans are able to see the band in the UK, US, Canada and Mexico quite often. While on tour, the group adds at least one extra member to provide backing vocals and has had at least five other touring musicians as part of the lineup in the past.'
