The first organized football team at Temple got off the ground in 1894. At that time, college football was in its infancy. There aren't many records of games and teams from that era of Temple football. Over the years, the team grew into something of a powerhouse. By the 1930s, famed coach Pop Warner was leading the Temple program. Temple's program grew steadily and played well through the 1970s. Many Owls players went on to be drafted by NFL teams, including Nick Mike-Mayer, Joe Klecko and Steve Watson. By the late 1980s, trouble was brewing. Temple's winning record in 1990 would be their last for over a decade. Since the early 2000s, Temple has been rebuilding successfully. The Owls won their division in 2009, 2015 and 2016. Local fans and alumni are grateful to have a motivated, contending team on their hands again. StubHub is your source for Temple Owls tickets.

, where he was the head football coach from 2012 to 2018. Carey grew up in the Midwest. He played college football at Indiana from 1989 to 1993, as a center. Carey is known for helping develop players. He's coached several players who went on to the NFL, including Chad Beebe and Jimmie Ward.
The 2018 Temple Owls' record indicates they had a successful season. The team went 8–5 overall, with a stellar 7–1 record in conference games. The Owls finished second in the American's East Division. They were invited to the Independence Bowl, where they faced off against the
Duke Blue Devils
. Temple lost the match-up.
In 2019, Temple will start the season against Bucknell at home. They'll also play non-conference games against Georgia Tech, Maryland and Buffalo. Temple's in-conference games will include match-ups against UConn, Tulane, East Carolina and Memphis.
The Temple Owls have never won a national championship. They have won their conference twice, in 1967 and 2016. The Owls have also captured three divisional championships. They won the East in 2009, 2015 and 2016. Temple has been invited to eight post-season bowl games, starting in the 1930s with a loss at the Sugar Bowl to Tulane. The Owls are 3–5 in bowl games overall.
The list of Temple's all-time greats includes many players who made it to the NFL's Pro Bowl. These include Joe Klecko, Bucko Kilroy, Tre' Johnson and Steve Watson. Temple is still producing great players. In 2019, three standout players from Temple's roster were drafted into the NFL.
