Did you know that the Southern Jaguars won the conference tournament five different times in the 1980s?

Setting the gold standard for excellence in the conference, Southern won the tournament in 1981 and liked doing that so much they thought they would just keep winning, which they did again in 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1989 to create somewhat of a SWAC dynasty. It didn't stop there either, as the Jags were back at it just a couple of seasons ago, bringing home their SWAC-leading eighth conference title back in 2013.
