Super Diamond - The Neil Diamond Tribute
'Most tribute bands deliver straightforward, by-the-book renditions of an artist's songs. Super Diamond tickets, however, are an invitation into the world of the unexpected. Super Diamond takes Neil Diamond classics and gives them a non-traditional twist. Surprising audiences by bringing their own style to the legendary singer/songwriter's music, Super Diamond has met with critical acclaim — including a nod from the master himself.'
'Super Diamond frontman Randy Cordero (aka Surreal Neil) was raised on the music of Oingo Boingo, The Cure and AC/DC. He says his parents bought him his first Neil Diamond album when he was 12 years old. Although he initially found the music uncool, it grew on him. Cordero went to school for engineering, but occasionally performed music in local venues. In 1989, in a punk club in Tempe, he decided on a whim to play the Diamond staple Sweet Caroline. He describes the scene in vivid detail: dressed all in black, in an underground venue, playing music people liked to make fun of. Still, the crowd unambiguously loved it. In 1993, he assembled Super Diamond as a bona fide Neil Diamond tribute band, saying that it's the band's mission to spread the good news of Neil by performing his songs in styles and places where one wouldn't ordinarily expect to hear them. The band began as a side project for everyone involved, but eventually Surreal Neil quit his job as an electrical engineer and turned Super Diamond into a full-time gig.'
'The band has had a constantly changing line-up since its start, with Surreal Neil as the only constant. As of late 2016, the band consists Cordero on vocals, keyboardists Rama Koleskinow and James Terris, bassist Matt Tidmarsh, drummer Vince Littleton and guitarist Chris Collins.'
'Super Diamond tours are known to draw large crowds in the US. Thanks to its West Coast roots and off-kilter feel, the band has found a particularly large fanbase in the Rockies. Their 2015 concert in Vail, Colo., drew a packed crowd, and the band has expressed a special affection for their Colorado fans. In addition to their Vail concert, look for them at venues like House of Blues Anaheim, The Showbox in Seattle and the Ameristar Casino and Hotel in Kansas City.'
'Super Diamond has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, in addition to performing with Neil Diamond himself on two occasions — at the House of Blues Sunset Strip and the Saving Silverman premiere party.'
'Fans purchasing Super Diamond tickets might also enjoy live shows by the original Neil Diamond or One Night of Queen.'
