Country music's biggest duo is definitely here to Stay. Guitarist/vocalist Kristian Bush and vocalist/guitarist Kristen Hall founded the band in 2002. The group added main vocalist Jennifer Nettles just before it was signed to Mercury Nashville Records in 2004. A few months later, after joining Mercury Nashville's roster, the band released its debut album,
Twice the Speed of Life, which featured the song Baby Girl. In 2006, the group was nominated for a Grammy Award and earned multiple nominations in various categories at several country music award shows. Hall departed the group just before it put out its sophomore effort,
Enjoy the Ride. This record produced one of the band's biggest hits with Stay. It also gave the group its first two No. 1 singles in the US, Want To and Settlin.' The aftermath of the release of its third album saw Sugarland touring across the US and around the world. It visited US military bases in Europe and joined artists like
Kenny Chesney on tour. In 2010, the band released its fifth studio album,
The Incredible Machine.
Beyond Just Being a Duo and a Reunion
Nettles and Bush also tried to make a name for themselves outside of Sugarland. After deciding to go on hiatus in 2012, Bush released his debut solo single, Love or Money, while Nettles spent time with her family on maternity leave. The success of Bush's solo stint saw him join the Country Music Association's Songwriters Series, which toured to different cities across the US. The other half of the duo also made sure her star shined. Nettles recorded and released numerous singles during the band's hiatus. She released two albums,
That Girl and
Playing with Fire, in 2014 and 2016, respectively. The year 2018 marked the country duo's return as Sugarland. Bush confessed in an interview that it was timing that got the group together again. He added that with Nettles being busy with her solo career and being a mother, they were waiting for the perfect time to pursue being a duo again. That reunion produced Sugarland's sixth studio album,
Bigger. Its lead single is the
Taylor Swift-penned single Babe.
