Straight No Chaser
The name doesn't quite tell the entire story. Though taking a shot straight with no chaser might burn the average person's tongue, this a cappella group will keep singing without missing a drop. Not a single instrument supports the crisp voices of nine adult singers who meticulously practice before giving you their all. The choir's choice of songs covers modern and classic hits alike as the group's bass, baritone and soprano pitches blend in harmony.
The infamous jazz king, Thelonious Monk, wrote the original hit titled Straight, No Chaser. It's what you can order at a bar, and the band selected its name based on the alcohol-accompanied pleasantries of its Christmas-themed show. The hit sensation Straight No Chaser appeared at Carnegie Hall in 1996 as part of a larger performance, and the crowd soon realized that the students, who were boys from Indiana University, had stolen the show. The university stuck with the acronym of SNC, and the group's fame grew locally, especially around Christmastime. Atlantic Records signed Straight No Chaser with a bold idea led by the label's CEO, Craig Kallman. The American PBS station pushed the group's fame even further when it began airing SNC's live concerts during winter holidays, including a full rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas sung completely a capella. Today, this team tours in more than 75 cities with covers of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson, Fix You by Coldplay and Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley among many others.

Expect a mix of comedy, love and thrill. Nothing is actually straight about this choir's performances. These voices tend to break tradition up into pieces that expose the audience to the unscripted side of songwriting. From making fun of old Disney classics to hitting each note in Shut Up and Dance, there's always a good, heartfelt surprise in the lineup. Being consistent, at least for these men, is about staying in key and supporting one another with percussion sounds from the human mouth. You might feel like there's a string bass playing or a few trumpets blowing, but within a full show, nothing accompanies these eclectic voices.
