Frank Martin has been the head coach for the Gamecocks' basketball team since 2012. Prior to coming to South Carolina, Martin was head coach at

Kansas State

University, bringing the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament four times during his five-year tenure. As of 2019, Martin has an overall 246-160 record as a head coach and a 129-106 record as head coach at South Carolina. Martin coached the Gamecocks to a school-best season in 2016-2017 and led them to the program's first-ever Final Four appearance. He was subsequently named a 2017 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year. Martin scored a 16-16 record for the 2018-2019 season, which included an 11-7 SEC record that accorded a fourth-place tie for the Gamecocks in the conference standings.
