Many of last year’s winners may be back trying to defend their title at the San Antonio Livestock Show rodeo. During the 2019 performance, Orin Larsen beat out Richmond Champion by 0.5 points to bring home the bareback riding championship. Tyler Waguespack beat out Chason Floyd by 0.1 seconds to win the steer wrestling. Tate Kirchenschlager won the team roping where the money is on each individual. Wade Sundell received $15,000 for his winning performance during the saddle bronc riding. It took Shane Hanchey only 7.2 seconds to win the tie-down roping. Hailey Kinse beat out Shali Lord by 0.02 seconds to claim the barrel racing victory. J.W. Harris was the winner of the finals in bull riding. There is very little doubt that this year’s performances will be equally exciting regardless of which rodeo performers show up for the event.
The top 10 men from each of the two semi-final rides plus the next 16 top money winners qualify to participate in the Xtreme Bull Riding event. This special performance on the next to last day of the rodeo allows these individuals to try to ride the bulls for eight seconds and get even more prize money. No other rodeo events will be held on this day, so if you love watching only the bull riders, this may be the perfect opportunity to watch the top bull riders and the top bulls perform.
The best animals at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo earn prize money. A committee chooses the animals that perform the best during the shows and give their owners a special check. During 2019, animals singled out for their performances included bareback horse Full Baggage owned by Frontier Rodeo, bull Sweet Pro’s Bruiser owned by D&H Cattle Company, saddle bronc Womanizer owned by Cervi Championship Rodeo and others.
