Rexall Place History

Rexall Place is the Edmonton, Alberta home of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and as such is one of the most electrifying arenas in North America. The venue fist opened in 1974 and is the third oldest arena in the NHL but still offers an incredible experience for fans attending any event it hosts. Rexall Place is well known as one of the best arenas in the world to watch hockey as it has hosted not only NHL games but also a wide array of junior league games. Indoor lacrosse and arena football have also been a big part of the history of Rexall Place making it a mecca for sports fans in Alberta. Rexall Place Events

Fans flock to Rexall Place to see the Edmonton Oilers take on the best teams ion the NHL including the Los Angeles Kings, the New York Rangers, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Washington Capitals, and the Vancouver Canucks. The venue serves as the home of the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings and has hosted the Commonwealth Games, the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, and Universiade. Each year Rexall Place is home to YC Alberta and the Canadian Finals Rodeo. Concerts are a big part of the schedule at Rexall Place and musical acts like Arcade Fire, Rod Stewart, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Katy Perry, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and more have all performed at the venue. Additional happenings at the arena include WWE events, award shows, and family friendly fare like Walking with the Dinosaurs.

Edmonton is the capital of Alberta and is always brimming with things to do. Rexall Place holds up to 16,839 fans for hockey games and the environment inside the arena for Oilers games is nothing short of electric. Hockey games are always exciting live but being in the crowd surrounded by rabid Oilers fans is an experience like no other. Concerts at Rexall Place hold around 13,000 fans and the arena is the perfect spot to see all of the biggest musical acts that come to Alberta.

Trivia

Rexall Place has been home to plenty of notable events during its 40 year history but perhaps none quite as exciting as when it hosted the 2007 Men's Curling Championship. Before it was known as Rexall Place the venue had several other names including Northlands Coliseum, Edmonton Coliseum, and Skyreach Centre.
