Comedian Maya Rudolph has teamed up with Los Angeles-based singer songwriter Gretchen Lieberum to create a hilarious Prince cover band called Princess. Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum have been singing together since college, but they recently turned their mutual love for Prince into an actual project. The funny duo recently performed a cover of Darling Nikki on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and audiences were roaring with laughter. Gawker called it ingenious and plenty of other fans agree. Maya Rudolph is most widely known for her role on Saturday Night Live, where she was a regular cast member for over seven years on the show. She has also been featured in the television series Up All Night with Christina Applegate and Will Arnett. Maya Rudolph was also in the hit comedy film Bridesmaids, which grossed over $169 million at the box office, and received a number of accolades, including a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Melissa McCarthy, and for Best Original Screenplay. Bridesmaids was actually the first Judd Apatow-produced film to be nominated for an Academy Award.Gretchen Lieberum is a Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter. Raised in Berkeley, California, Lieberum began exploring her passion for music writing by delving into the Bay Area music scene. After leading a funk band for a few years, she released her first solo album called Three AM.

Together, Rudolph and Lieberum and fulfilling a sort of childhood fantasy, as they both adored Prince since they were young. Rudolph discovered Prince's music when she was only 9 years old, when her cousin visited with a copy of the 1980 album, Dirty Mind, but she really fell in love when she watched the film Purple Rain. This isn't Maya Rudolph's first venture into music. Prior to being cast on Saturday Night Live, Maya Rudolph was a backup singer for the band The Rentals, and briefly a keyboardist. She even went on tour with them for a short time. She was also featured in the music videos for Waiting and Please Let That Be You. She sang backup in Barcelona and My Head Is In The Sun. She teamed up with The Rentals' Matt Sharp again in 2004, recording a cover of Tegan and Sara's Not Tonight.

Maya Rudolph got her big break when she was featured as a regular cast member of Saturday Night Live. Her appearance in the hit film Bridesmaids also shot her to fame, and allowed her to gain a wider audience.
