Los Angeles Angels FAQs:

Where do the Los Angeles Angels play?

The Los Angeles Angels play at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, which opened in 1966 in Anaheim, California, with a seating capacity of 45,050. Better known as just Angel Stadium, or “The Big A”, it’s the 4th oldest active MLB ballpark. Catching a ball game at Angel Stadium is a great experience thanks to nicely spaced out seating, excellent views, easy to navigate concourses, and plenty of parking. One of the most well-known landmarks at Angel Stadium is the iconic, 230-foot-tall, halo-topped letter “A”, which was the original stadium scoreboard. It was moved to the parking area during renovations in 1979 where it functions as a marquee and a tourist attraction. Fans are welcome to tailgate in the general parking area by The Big A sign before the game. Angel Stadium is family friendly and situated close to Disneyland, so you’ll regularly find a good mix of fans and tourists at games, as well as opposing team fans. The stadium has been renovated multiple times, updating technology and infrastructure to maintain a positive fan experience. The most notable period of renovations was during 1997 when Disney was a part owner of the franchise. The stadium was converted from a multi-purpose venue to be baseball specific, and in typical Disney style a “California Spectacular” feature was added at center field. This replica of a mountainside features artificial rocks, real trees, water geysers, and a running waterfall. It also shoots off fireworks, at the start of games and after every Angels home run, or win. The exterior was renovated, and a plaza was constructed with two huge Angels ball caps flanking the front entrance. Angel Stadium’s laid-back energy, easy access, and open sight lines offer a fantastic major league game experience.

Los Angeles Angels Fan Life

The Los Angeles Angels fans have had their share of ups and downs but continue to keep the faith through multiple team name changes and some lean years. It’s been a decade since they last celebrated their Angels winning the AL West, despite having had some of the best players in the game on the team, and there is currently a lot of frustration with the ownership. These fans deserve better. Anaheim is a tourist city and Angels fans are known for being welcoming to guests and opposing team fans. They're a fun and enthusiastic fan group who loves to set crazy Guinness World Records together at Angel Stadium like “most people wearing costume masks, “largest gathering of people wearing cowboy hats”, “most wrestling masks worn”, “most Snuggies worn”, and many more. There is even a chill tailgating scene before games at Angel Stadium, where everyone is welcome. Fun fact about the Los Angeles Angels...

The story of the Singing Cowboy and the Angels is less well known outside of California. Gene Autry was a popular American crooner, musician, and composer, as well as an actor, appearing in 93 films during the 30s, 40s, and 50s. He was also the founding owner of the Angels baseball franchise. Nicknamed “The Cowboy” after his long acting career in western movies, Gene Autry owned multiple radio stations, a Los Angeles television station, and the Gene Autry Hotel in Palm Springs. He was originally interested in obtaining the broadcast rights for the new ball team but was persuaded by baseball executives to buy the team instead. Autry bought the expansion team rights for $350,000 in 1960 (approx. $3,720,000 today). Autry had a passion for baseball and is known to have been a generous owner who loved his team. Sadly, in 38 years as the team owner, he never realized the dream of seeing his Angels play the World Series. The saying “Win One for the Cowboy” became a mantra for the team and their fans. Gene Autry died in 1998 and 4 years later, the Angels brought home their first World Series Championship. The team brought one of Autry's signature white Stetson hats out on the field in tribute to the man who started it all.
