'Loretta Lynn has been writing and singing songs for 60 years. A country music icon, she became a star with her No. 1 hit single Success. Known for music that was authentically drawn from her own experiences as a wife and mother, she produced hits like One's on the Way, Trouble in Paradise and Coal Miner's Daughter. She collaborated with stars like Ernest Tubbs and Conway Twitty on many songs, and she is one of the most popular female country music stars of her time. Her most famous song, Coal Miner's Daughter, was made into a movie with the same name, which won a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture.'

Loretta Lynn was born in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, in 1932. Married at the young age of 15 (misstated as 13 in some instances), she had four children by the time she was 20 years old and was living in the state of Washington. Her husband, Doolittle, bought her a guitar when she was in her early 20s, and she taught herself how to play. She began writing songs and playing with a band at local venues. People from Zero Records heard her playing at a bar in Vancouver, Canada, and they signed her to a recording contract. She released her first single, I'm a Honkey Tonk Girl. She made herself a fringed cowgirl outfit and drove across the country, with Doolittle, to promote the song at numerous radio stations. This strategy worked, and the song soon became a hit on several charts in 1960. Loretta went to Nashville, and she began singing regularly at the
Grand Ole Opry
. Soon after, Loretta signed on with Decca Records.

'Loretta Lynn has performed with many musicians and artists throughout her career, and her first duets were with stars like Ernest Tubbs. But her most famous pairing was with Conway Twitty. Their duets produced such fan favorites as Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man and Lead Me On. The song Lead Me On helped Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn win a CMA Award for Vocal Duo of the year in 1972, the first of four they won as a duo. These shared awards with Loretta Lynn were the only major awards Conway Twitty would win in his career.'
