His family returned frequently to Kentucky and Prine wrote songs along the way. Later, he learned that a coal company had purchased the small town of Paradise, his grandparent's hometown where he had visited them for many summers. After purchasing the town, the coal company completely destroyed it in order to get to the valuable coal underneath.
