The First Responder Bowl is always held at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The Cotton Bowl is located in Fair Park to the east of downtown Dallas between Washington St and 1st Ave. This historic location was home to the Cotton Bowl Classic until 2009. It was also the home stadium for the Dallas Cowboys from 1960 to 1971.
Cotton Bowl Stadium has a capacity of 92,100. The capacity results from a series of revisions in 2008; the second deck was expanded to completely encircle the stadium. The First Responder Bowl has only held its current name since 2018. The game was originally known as the TicketCity Bowl and renamed as the Heart of Dallas Bowl in 2013. The First Responder Bowl name was introduced when Servpro purchased the title sponsorship; the opening ceremonies were also changed to honor the first responders attending the game.
The First Responder Bowl normally sees play between Division I teams from the Big 10 Conference, the Big 12 Conference and Conference USA. Teams from the Mountain West Conference and the Pac-12 Conference have also been chosen to play when the other conferences did not have enough eligible teams. The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced a tie-in with the First Responder Bowl that will begin in 2020.
The First Responder Bowl holds a variety of events meant to honor first responders. Fans are treated to the Red & Blue Fan Zone, which features food carts, marching bands and sample first responder vehicles and equipment. The fan zone typically opens to the public at 8:30 a.m., significantly before the actual game begins.
