''The Furman University Paladins of South Carolina came on the football scene in 1889. By the 1920s, the team name became the Purple Paladins. This name also applied to the rest of Furman's athletic programs and teams at the time. This name stuck for a few decades. However, there were cries for a name change almost constantly during the next several years, but the team became the Purple Paladins in 1961. The current team members and Coach Clay Hendrix all have good reason to believe that the future of Furman football is secure entering the 2019 season. The Paladins were picked second for a spot in their conference this year, and several skilled junior players strengthen the lineup with experience and patience. The team's academic juniors account for the majority of the starting offense, and sports commentators expect them to grab many yards and points. 'The Furman Paladins make a home in Paladin Stadium. The original structure could seat 13,200 football fans. It was later expanded and can now hold 16,000 patrons. Prior to the 2010 football season, the athletic department converted the area to field turf. Furman University also uses the venue to host events such as graduation ceremonies for students and live concerts.'
'The Furman Paladins are coached by Clay Hendrix right now. Mr. Hendrix is a big reason that fans of the Paladins have some renewed confidence in their abilities to take home some great wins for the 2019 football season. Hendrix has been the coach for the Paladins since the end of 2016 and has led them through some great times in the past couple of years. This will be the third season that is part of his overall plan to put the team back on top of their conference by defeating all rivals. He has packed the 2019 roster with several positions that have been rather thin for the past couple of seasons.'
